Children of Affected SLAOC War Hero Families Given Incentives

The Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps Seva Vanitha Unit (SLAOC-SVU), enabling the ladies to carry out more and more welfare roles for SLAOC disabled War Heroes and family members of fallen War Heroes, staged a donation of books and financial incentives in cooperation with the National Savings Bank (NSB) Tuesday (29) evening at the Defence Services College auditorium in Colombo 2.

Major General Renaka Udawatte, Colonel of the Regiment, SLAOC, together with the Chairperson, SLAOC-SVU, Mrs Deepika Udawatte, welcomed the day’s Chief Guest Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army and Mrs. Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) at the entrance to the Defence Services College auditorium.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva and Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, ASVU after lighting the traditional oil lamp as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively inaugurated the day’s programme. Chairperson, SLAOC-SVU, Mrs Deepika Udawatte delivered the welcome speech at the ceremony.

Financial incentives, worth about Rs. 1.2 million were awarded as scholarships among 100 students who had succeeded in the Grade 5 scholarship examination. 50 scholarships were funded by the NSB.

As a symbolic gesture, the Commander of the Army presented 28 parcels of books to the children, including those 100 beneficiaries of financial incentives during the ceremony.

1482 students who are learning in schools received those parcels to the value of Rs 1.1 million on the same occasion.

The aim of the project was to ensure those children of Fallen War Heroes or affected War Heroes during the humanitarian operations to safeguard the unity of the country are encouraged for studies.

Mr. Aswin De Silva, Chairman National Savings Bank also shared the award of those incentives to the recipients. Mr S.D.N Perera, General Manager/CEO of the National Savings Bank was also present.

Senior military officers, other rankers, children and a large gathering of Ranaviru families were present at the event.

Major General Channa Goonetilleke, Deputy Chief of Staff and several other senior officers were present.
