Sri Lanka Army weight-lifters won the overall Novices Weight-Lifting Championship at the recent National Novices Weight-Lifting Tournament, held at Young Members Christian Association (YMCA) auditorium in Kandy.
Army weight-lifters emerged champions by beating 5 other teams, Rivi Sanda College Sports Club, Kegalle Weight-Lifting Sports Club, Polonnaruwa Weight Lifting Sports Club, Salalihini Sports Club and the YMCA team in Kandy.
Sri Lanka Army participants Lance Corporal H.L Wasantha Kumara and Private H.K.S Senavirathna (56 kg category), Private R.S Roshan (62 kg category), Private R.H.M Bandara (69 kg category), Private H.D.A Bandara (77 kg category) and Private K.L.D Liyanage (85 kg category), Private E.B.C Jayasnka (85 kg category) and Lance Corporal W.B.M Sebera (94 kg category) secured 8 Gold and Silver medals during the tournament.
