Troops of the 121 Brigade of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ- C) , took immediate steps to bring a fast spreading bushfire under control in the general areas of Medagama and Obbegoda in the Moneragala District on Thursday (4).
The fire that broke out late Thursday morning was brought to the notice of the troops of the 18 Battalion of the Gemunu Watch (18 GW) serving Wellawaya area under the 121 Brigade who reached the area swiftly and brought it under control.
More than 30 personnel at ground level contributed to wrest control of the fast spreading fire.
However, they succeeded in bringing the entire fire under control by evening on the same day (04).
In the mean time 23 Gajaba Regiment troops under the 122 Brigade controlled another bush fire in the jungle near the Wedasiti Kanda, Kataragama area in same day.
A total of 50 Army personnel including 2 officers and 48 other ranks together with officers of Civil Security Department and officers of Regional secretary office at Katharagama involved in the fire control.
