Prevailing dry weather conditions in Nuwara Eliya and Badulla Districts have led to the outbreak of several bushfires prompting troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-Cen) to intervene and bring them under control in the past couple of days.
A sudden bushfire that broke out in Millapitiya area in the Walapane Divisional Secretariat in Nuwara Eliya District was brought under control on Saturday (21) within a couple of hours after one Officer and twenty Other Ranks of 3 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment rushed to the scene.
Similarly, a similar outbreak in Uduhawara area in the Welimada Divisional Secretariat sector in Badulla District was managed by troops of 5 (Volunteer) Sinha Regiment on Sunday (22) who took prompt action.
Meanwhile, another bushfire reported from Beragala Kanda in the Haputale Divisional Secretariat area on Monday (23) was controlled by troops of the Security Force Headquarters- Central. All those operations were carried out under the close supervision of Major General Rukmal Dias, Commander, Security Forces - Central (SF-Cen).
