CDS Visits Army Commander at AHQ

IN KEEPING with military traditions, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Sarath Fonseka Thursday (23) morning paid a courtesy call on the new Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at his office in the Army Headquarters.

The visit, seen also as a gesture of goodwill and understanding was the first of such nature after the new CDS assumed duties early this week.

The visiting CDS was received at the main entrance by Colonel Athula Silva, Commanding Officer Headquarters Battalion at Army Headquarters before the CDS inspected the Guard Turnout.

Then he was accompanied to the saluting dais by Major General Aruna Jayatilake, Colonel of the Regiment Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) where troops of the SLSR accorded him a Guard of Honour.

After the parade, Colonel of the Regiment conducted the CDS to the AHQ main building where Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya received him and formally introduced his Principal Staff Officers to the CDS.

Both General Sarath Fonseka and the Commander of the Army exchanged views on matters of mutual interest. On the invitation of the Commander, the new CDS left his signature on the VIP book at the Commander’s office.

Later on, General Fonseka was presented a memento as a token of goodwill and remembrance by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya. The CDS reciprocated the gesture before his departure from the Army Headquarters.
