CDS, Army, Navy, Air Force, Police Chiefs &;amp; CDF DG Review 'Victory Day' Parade Rehearsals

Air Chief Marshal W.D.R.M.J. Goonetileke, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, Vice Admiral D.W.A.S. Dissanayake, Commander of the Navy, Air Marshal H.D. Abeywickrama, Commander of the Air Force, N.K. Illangakoon, Inspector General of the Police and Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris, Director General (DG) of Civil Defence Force (CDF) were on hand at Galle Face esplanade Wednesday (16) morning to review preparations and rehearsals, related to the conduct of the National Victory Day parade, scheduled for May 19, 2012. 

National Victory Day parade that coincides with the National War Heroes month, is dedicated to the memory of all War Heroes of the Tri-services, Police and the Civil Defence Force who tirelessly defended the territorial integrity and eliminated the ruthless terrorism that plagued this country for over 30 years in May 2009.

The military parade, presented by troops of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and the Civil Defence Force, is held for the third successive year marking the third anniversary of the elimination of terrorism from this resplendent island-nation.

Valour, leadership, comradeship and sacrifice displayed by fifteen valiant War Heroes including two from the Navy and Air Force are to be posthumously honoured by conferring the highest gallantry award, ‘Parama Weera Vibushanaya’ during the ceremony on Saturday (19).
   
All military and Chiefs of the Security Forces closely watched their respective segments in the rehearsing parade and discussed improvements needed to be further added. They also gave instructions for various other changes in the parade arrangements. Attention was also paid on the platforms that have been erected for the invitees as the event is expected to draw huge crowds.
