CDS addresses troops and attends Poya Day religious rites

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri during a brief visit to Jaffna last Thursday (18) spoke to a cross section of his Senior Officers and sailors and attended a religious ceremony to coincide with the Full Moon Poya.

CDS received by Major General S.D. Tennakoon, Commander Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna and Rear Admiral Wasantha Tennakoon, Commander North Naval Command at Palaly airport was later conducted to the Headquarters for North Naval Command at Kankesanthurai where he addressed Officers and sailors.

CDS the following Full Moon Day unveiled the pinnacle at newly constructed Dagoba at Madagal temple at “Dambakola Patuna” amidst chanting of pirith by Maha Sangha led by Ven Weamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayake Thera and Dr Kollupitiye Sangharakkitha Thera. Senior Officers including Commander Major General Tennekoon, Commander, North Naval Command, Senior Navy and Army Officers participated in this event.

This sacred premises turned historically significant after Ven Sangamitta Therani brought the southern sapling of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi from India during the reign of the king Devanampiyatissa.
