CAVT Distributes More Spectacles among the Vision-Impaired

Another community welfare project, organized by the Centre for Army Vocational Training (CAVT) at Saliyawewa, covering the people in Nawagaththegama area, got underway on Friday (6) at Ralapanawa Primary School premises.

Following coordination done by the CAVT Commandant, Brigadier H.E.M.R.B.T Hathnagoda and Dr Nimal Weerakoon of Kandy Opticals (Pvt) Ltd, together with a team of medical staff, a mobile eye clinic at the above school premises was held where a total of 167 pairs of spectacles were distributed among under-privileged people suffering from vision impairments.

The inaugural occasion of the mobile eye clinic was attended by several Army Officers, Other Rankers and Government Officials in the area and Officials of the donor, Kandy Opticals (Pvt) Ltd.

Meanwhile, responding to a request, made to the Army by the Principal at Mahasen Maha Vidyalaya, Rajanganaya, Brigadier Randula Hathnagoda, Commandant, Centre for Army Vocational Training (CAVT) at Saliyawewa, took steps to provide 10 pairs of spectacles to students with vision impairments free of charge.

Dr Nimal Weerakoon, Chairman, Kandy Opticians Pvt Ltd extending his cooperation to the need, provided the CAVT with those spectacles, needed for 10 students after examining their vision and other concerns.

Those 10 students were awarded new spectacles during a brief ceremony, held on Tuesday (3) at Mahasen College, Rajanganaya, which is a remote area with less facilities. Principal, teachers and several Officers were associated with the brief ceremony.
