Buttala OCDC Seminar to Touch on Challenges to National Security Strategy

The Buttala Officer Career Development Centre (OCDC) inaugurated its first seminar in the year 2019 this morning (30) on the theme, ‘Challenges in Evolving the National Security Strategy in Sri Lanka during a simple ceremony, headed by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest.

Soon after the traditional oil lamp lighting, the stage paved the way for the OCDC Commandant, Major General Chandana Gunawardana to deliver his welcome speech.

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake afterwards delivered the keynote address, laying a solid platform to unfold Seminar sessions on several relevant sub themes, inclusive of ‘Understanding the Sri Lankan National Interests and Objectives’, ‘Enduring National Interests; Have We Interpreted/Understood Appropriately’, ‘Actual/Perceived National Interests; Realities in Conceptualization’, ‘National Threat Perception; Strategizing Security Objectives’, ‘The Real/Perceived Threat at Modernity; Traditional or Non-traditional’, ‘Transnational Narcotics and Mayhems of Globalization; Need We Securities? If so what to Prioritize’, ‘The Government’s Holistic Approach to Address National Security Challenges’, ‘Necessity of an Interoperable Mechanism among Inline Ministries/Relevant Agencies’, ‘Restructuring the Military to Accustom for Government’s Holistic Approach’, ‘Options for Defence Sector Reforms in Strategic and Operational Context’, ‘Defence Sector Reforms Underpinning the Legitimacy, Accountability and Conformity with International Legal Framework’, ‘Force Multiplication through Defence Sector Reforms’, ‘Conceptualization of the Defence Sector Reforms’, ‘Reforms at National Level’ and ‘The Need for Rightsizing the Armed Forces’.

Sixty four tri-service Senior Officers are attending the Seminar 1/2019, being held for the 13th consecutive time at Buttala.

Eminent scholars from the University of Peradeniya, Kotelawala Defence University, University of Colombo as well as intellectuals from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force and the Police are scheduled to share their expertise as guest speakers during the sessions.

Professor Amal Jayawardane of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Professor W.I Siriweera of National Education Commission, Dr Maneesha Pasqual of University of Colombo, Professor Praveen Abhayaratne of American National University, Ms Menik Wakkumbura of University of Colombo, DIG Sanjeewa Medawatte of the Sri Lanka Police Narcotic Range, Major General K.P.A Jayasekara, Mr Nilanthan Niruthan, Air Commodore A.A.U.P Rajapaksa, Major General R.W.W.A.D.B Rajaguru, Mr George Cooke, Rear Admiral Y.N Jayarathne, Major General J.R Kulatunga, Ms W.P.G.D.J Senanayake and Major General P.R Wanigasooriya are billed to address the academic sessions.

The interactive question and answer sessions on both days would allow participants to share their views with experts. OCDC added memories to the Commander’s visit to the OCDC by presenting him with a special memento before the Commander left the premises.Nike sneakers | nike fashion
