Buttala OCDC Seminar Sessions End

The two-day long seminar on ‘Current Geopolitical Realities and Its Impact on Sri Lankas Foreign Policy’ at the Officer Career Development Centre (OCDC), Buttala concluded on Wednesday (27) after successful sessions.

Major General Jagath Dias, Chief of Staff, graced the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday (26) at the invitation of Brigadier N.D. Wanniarachchi, Commandant, OCDC.

Four sessions in the seminar discussed extensively on different topics such as Evolution of Sri Lanka’s Foreign Relations: a Historical Account, Transformation of Foreign Relation into Foreign Policy, Sri Lankan Foreign Policy and the Future, Sri Lanka as a Small State in the Middle of the Indian Ocean , Sri Lankan Foreign Policy and Geopolitical Environment, A Pragmatic Approach towards Foreign Policy Making , Political Environment, Transnational Activities and External Influences , Key Challenges to Retain the Robust Foreign Policy Focus as Aid to Military Effectiveness, Responsibilities and the Role of Armed Forces in Maintaining Effective Foreign Relations, Military Contribution towards the Foreign Relations of Nations and Foreign Policy Implications on National Security.  

Prof W.I. Siriweera, Former Chairman of University Grants Commission and Former Chancellor of University of Rajarata, Mr. A M J Sadiq, Additional Secretary of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. G Wijayasiri, Former Foreign Secretary and Former Ambassador, Professor of International Relations -University of Colombo, Prof Amal Jayawardena,  Lecturer at Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Dr Sitara Fernando, Senior Lecturer-University of Colombo,  Ms Nirmali Wijegunawadana,  Dr S.W. Prathiba Mahanamahewa, Dean Faculty of Law-Sir John Kotelawala Defence University  and Ms Nirmala Paranawithana- Director South Asia and SAARC Division at the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Major General A.M Perera, Commander Army Training Command, Deputy Vice Chancellor- University of Peradeniya, Prof Shantha K. Hennanayake and Ms Kulani Wijayabahu, Assistant Lecturer, Department of International Relations- University of Colombo were the lecturers who made contributions to the sessions.

Many Security Force Headquarters, including Security Force Headquarters–Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) made arrangements to webcast the seminar sessions. All officers serving the SFHQ-KLN gathered at the SFHQ-KLN auditorium for viewing the sessions.
