Buddhist Monks &; Villagers in Moragahahena Visit Vanni Troops in New Year

THE ANNUAL “Vavuniya Avurudu Charika” (New Year Visit to Vavuniya) of the Moragahahena Sri Purvarama Buddhist Development Foundation in Horana was organized this year too for the eighteenth consecutive time.

Buddhist monks of Moragahahena Sri Purvaramaya temple and dwellers in surrounding villages on 11th April took their Sinhala and Hindu New Year greetings with New Year eatables to soldiers who stayed away from their families during this festival season.

Three lorry loads of traditional sweetmeats such as “kevum, kokis, mun kevun etc.”, specially made during this most important cultural festival of Sinhalese and Tamils, brought to Vavuniya by the monks and members of the Foundation were received by the Commander Security Forces Headquarters-Vanni (SFHQ-V) Major General Jagath Jayasuriya at the SFHQ-V.

The Buddhist monks tied “Pirith threads” on Security Forces members to bless them.
