BoC Sponsorship Tranche for 'Abimansala - 3' Handed to Commander

The wellness resort, ‘Abimansala - 3' of the ‘Brave Hearts’ project, now nearing completion at Pangolla, Kurunegala where disable War Heroes of the North Western Province (NWP) are to be housed, received a heartening fillip when the Bank of Ceylon (BoC) on Monday (9) evening, donated the first tranche of Rs 6.5 million to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake at the Army Headquarters.

Mr D.M. Gunaratne, General Manager, Bank of Ceylon (BoC), together with a few BOC officials, presented the cheque to the value of Rs 6.5 million, the first instalment of the total sum, Rs 9.2 million, pledged to the project for construction of its new indigenous medical centre.

The ‘Abimansala - 3’ to be opened shortly is to take care of about 50 - 55 dependent War Heroes, resident in the NWP for the rest of their lives since their private houses are unable to provide them with most necessary therapeutic equipment and essential sanitary accessories, etc.

BoC which has also contributed to two previous projects at Anuradhapura and Kamburupitiya, has undertaken to sponsor the cost of the ‘Abimansala - 3Ayurvedic Centre which costs Rs 9.2 million on completion, considering the noble intention behind the project that would provide life-time care to those dependent War Heroes.

Commander of the Army expressed the Army gratitude to the BoC for its timely gesture as the Pangolla project is now fast nearing completion for the benefit of NWP dependent War Heroes.  Lieutenant General Ratnayake presented the Bank with a memento to gratify for its gesture. The move was reciprocated.

Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch, Mr Indunil Liyanage, BoC Chief Marketing officer, Mr W.M.S Wanasinghe, Assistant General Manager, Marketing, Mr Ranjith Thilakaratne, Chief Manager Marketing and a few senior officers were present at the Commander’s office.

Since the initial stages of the founding of the ‘Abimansala - 1’ at Anuradhapura, the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), has been at the forefront of collecting much-needed funds to make the project a reality through the ‘Brave Hearts’ fund-raising project of the SVAB.

The novel wellness resort concept, mooted by HE the President was effected under able stewardship of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development. General Jagath Jayasuriya, the former Commander of the Army too threw his weight behind realization of the project.
