Biggest Ever Single Donation to Upcoming 'Abimansala' Given to Commander

The biggest-ever single financial donation of Rs 10.1 million towards the ongoing Anuradhapura ‘Abimansala’ wellness resort construction under ‘Brave Hearts’ project was recently handed over to Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya during a fund-raising musical event.

Soldiers under 23 Division collected this thumping donation, consequent to a mega musical extravaganza that went on the boards last week on the banks of the scenic Minneriya Tank. A huge gathering of music fans and spectators thronged the colourful night and joined singing soothing melodies, lent by country’s leading vocalists. Proceeds came from the sale of entrance tickets to the musical extravaganza which attracted a packed crowd of more than 60,000.

On behalf of all the officers and soldiers serving the 23 Division, Major General S. Udumalagala, Commander Security Forces Minneriya in the presence of Major General M. H. S. B. Perera, General Officer Commanding 23 Division presented the cheque to the value of Rs 10.1 million to Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army to be used for the ‘Abimansala’ under construction for the benefit of permanently disable War Heroes.

A firework display plus specially designed laser lighting system added colour to the occasion, amidst dancing feats of elegantly dressed lasses and lads.
