Best Quality 'Free Issue' Packs Distributed Among Army Personnel


A simple ceremony at the Defence Service College auditorium Tuesday (23) morning saw a representative gathering of 300 Army personnel receive ‘free issue’ packs of clothes and essentials, needed in the discharge of duties of a soldier.    

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army at the invitation of Major General Nandana Udawatte, Master General Ordnance, took part in the distribution ceremony as the Chief Guest.

The ‘free issue’ pack, distributed among a representative group, selected from all Security Force Headquarters, contains two uniform sets (combat and regular), two T-shirts, two pairs of socks, towel, pair of boots, one No 6 uniform set and a short trouser of the best quality, each pack valued at Rs 10,122/=.

In addition, due to the personal intervention of the Commander of the Army, a pair of brand new track shoes is also to be given to all Army personnel in early 2015 free of charge.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake in a brief address to the occasion mentioned that a special care was taken this year to get the materials of the highest quality considering the durability and the wear of them. He also told the gathering that an increased allocation of funds, made by the government, enabled the supply of more clothes of the best quality.

After the Commander, Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Chief of Staff, Major General E.M.M Ambanpola, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Adjutant General, Major General R.V Udawatte, Director Financial Management and Major General N Udawatte, Master General Ordnance also joined the distribution of ‘free issues’ packs to the representative gathering of Army personnel.
