Beach Volleyball Championship Goes to VIR

The Inter Regiment Beach Volleyball Tournament, competed by 10 teams of different Army Regiments on the ‘Brown Beach’ coast for two days (June 12-13) made the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Champions after beating Gajaba Regiment (GR) players in the finals.

Sri Lanka Army’s Special Forces, in the practice of organizing this event every year under the Army Para Sports Tournament - 2012 programmme, hold Beach Volleyball matches, encouraging all Army Regiments to take part in the games.

During the final tussle, several top level Army officers including Major General E.P de Z Abeysekara, Master General Ordnance, Army Headquarters, Major General R.V Samaratunge, Director General Rehabilitation, Major General K.J Alwis, Director General General Staff and Chairman, Army Para Sports Committee and several Army officers witnessed it.

Major General Abeysekara as the Chief Guest on the occasion gave away Championship Trophy and other merit awards to the Champions and winners in the tournament.
