Army troops serving Batticaloa area offered their assistance to a distribution of over 7000 dry-ration packs among needy Muslims and Tamils in Batticaloa on Wednesday (25).
To coincide with the recent Holy Ramazan, the M. C. A Hameed Hajiyar Trust in Arayampathi had sponsored those dry-ration packs for distribution among poverty-stricken civilians in Batticaloa and its suburbs. Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Commander, Security Forces – East as the Chief Guest for the occasion attended the event, together with Brigadier Chula Abeynayake, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division and Brigadier Senarath Niuwnhella, 231 Brigade Commander.
M C A Hameed Hajiyar Trust claims that the objective behind this annual treat is to promote ethnic harmony, peace and reconciliation between Muslims and Tamils living in those areas.
11 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops of the 231 Brigade arranged everything and facilitated the conduct of the event for distribution of those parcels among the huge gathering.
