Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, currently in Bangladesh at the invitation of his Bangladesh counterpart, set about continuing his itinerary on Thursday (12) after paying a courtesy call on the Commander of the Bangladesh Air Force, Air Marshal Shah Mohammad Ziaur Rahman at Senakunja Air Force Headquarters at Dhaka Cantonment.
During the brief meet between both military chiefs, they exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and several issues, pertaining to regional cooperation, etc. At the end of the courtesy call, Bangladesh Air Force Chief presented a symbolic memento to the visiting Sri Lanka’s Army Chief as an appreciation. To signify the occasion, Lieutenant General Jayasuriya reciprocated the gesture with a similar souvenir before he left the Air Force Headquarters for Chittagong.
The visiting Sri Lankan delegation stopped next at Bangladesh’s pioneering, East Bengal Regiment Centre in Chittagong which is held in high esteem with its rich tradition and a glorious past record of bravery, courage and sacrifice. After meeting a couple of commanding and administrative authorities, the delegation called at the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA), the prestigious training institute for the officer cadets of Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force. Commandant Brig Gen Anisuzzaman Bhulyan at BMA during his short discussion with Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya spoke high of the Army’s contribution to the elimination of terrorism in Sri Lanka.
Nestled on the slopes of the Sitakunda hill ranges, the BMA with its motto, ‘Ever High is My Head’ has a tri-dimensional training system, incorporating military training, character building and academic enrichment and is rated one of the best military academies in the world.
