Badminton Talents in Soldiers Explored During 68 Div Organized Tournament


A badminton tournament, organized by 68 Division Headquarters with the view to promoting sports talents of both officers and soldiers, saw its final tussle a few days ago at 683 Brigade Headquarters indoor stadium.

Major W.L.G Fernando received the championship in the (single category) tournament while Lance Corporal R.M.S Kumarasinghe carried away the runners-up trophy in the same category. In the (double category), ‘A’ group of the 68 Division won the championship, in which Brigadier K.J Wijethilake, General Officer Commanding, 68 Division and Major W.L.G Fernando jointly fought.

The ‘B’ Group, represented by Colonel S.U.M.N Manage, Colonel General Staff at 68 Division and Major K.P.P Karunanayake, Staff Officer II at 68 Division clinched the runners-up slot in the final tussle.

Lance Corporal R.M.S Kumarasinghe of 14 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, serving the 68 Division was adjudged the year’s budding badminton player. He too received a trophy.

Brigadier G.R.H Dias, General Officer Commanding, 59 Division took part in the final match as the Chief Guest. Brigadier K.J Wijethilake, 681, 682 and 683 Brigade Commanders and Army officers in the 68 Division witnessed the prize giving ceremony and the final encounter.
