ATS M’Oya Recognized with New CIJW Course Badge

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army made his first formal visit to the Army’s one of the renowned academic institutes, the Army Training School (ATS) at Maduru Oya on Sunday (8) and left some memories by inaugurating new accommodation facilities and a few other new features.

Continuing to remain steadfast in his firm belief that best quality welfare measures for both officers and soldiers should be prioritized as one of the major prime concerns in the organization, the Commander took part in the ceremonial opening of the Warrant Officers’ & Sergeants’ Mess and the Officers’ accommodation.

At the invitation of Brigadier Jayantha Seneviratne, Commandant, ATS the Commander by opening those welfare projects endorsed the accepted norm that military should always try its maximum to uphold high standards, military traditions and practices.

The Chief Guest for the occasion Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army at the entrance to the ATS premises was honoured by according him a Guard Turn Out, befitting military traditions soon after Brigadier Jayantha Seneviratne, Commandant, ATS welcomed him.

Conducted towards the new construction site in a colourful procession, the visiting Commander was invited to unveil a plaque and warm the New Mess Building after cutting a ribbon.

Invoking blessings, the auspicious pot of milk in keeping with age-old traditions, was afterwards boiled as a token of prosperity before the Commander went round to see the interior of the construction.

Afterwards, the visiting Commander of the Army was invited to open the newly renovated Officers’ Accommodation Complex at the ATS premises for trainees.

Furthermore, the ATS was made proud by introducing a course badge for the qualified warriors in Counter Insurgency & Jungle Warfare Course (CIJW). 12 local Officers and 6 Foreign Student Officers of the CIJW Course No 21 were thus awarded with certificates & newly designed course badges by the Commander of the Army.

During interactions later on, the Commander shared a couple of views with serving Officers and CIJW student Officers and exchanged pleasantries while receiving updated accounts of the ATS contribution to ongoing training programmes.

Before his exit, the Commander extended his appreciative thanks to the ATS, Commandant.

Before the ceremony came to a close, the Commander sat together for a group photo with ATS Officers.

Commandant, ATS meanwhile presented a memento to the visiting Commander of the Army as a token of goodwill and memory before the scheduled programme ended.

Leaving a few lines of compliments in the visitors’ book, the Commander took leave of them in the same afternoon (8).
