ARTRAC – Organized Highlander’s Cup Attracts National Golfers

The Sri Lanka Army Training Command (ARTRAC) and the Army Golf Committee together with the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) hosted the ‘Highlander’s Cup – 2017’ annual golf tournament, in the picturesque setting surrounding the golf court at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), in the garrison town of Diyatalawa on Saturday (1).

Brigadier Nanda Hathurusinghe, Chairman, Army Golf Committee, took the lead in organizing the event on the directions given by the Commander of the Army as a new addition to the field of Army sports.

The tournament, played under the ‘Handicap’ rules of the game was open to 88 island-wide golfers who enthusiastically took part in the tournament, neck to neck with Army golfers.

Mr. Rohan de Silva, a leading golfer in the country became the overall champion and carried away the Highlander’s Cup.

After the end of the tournament, a gala awards night awarded 14 achievers in the series of the encounter held at ‘Station Officers’ Mess’ Diyatalawa.

Both Navy and Air Force Commanders witnessed the tournament and joined the awards night with other golfers.

Director General General Staff (DGGS) of the Army, Commander, Security Forces – Central, Commander, ARTRAC, senior tri-service Officers and national Golfers were also present both during the tournament and the subsequent awards night.
