The Army Women's Rugby team clinched the inter-club seven-a-side Rugby tournament 2012 conducted by the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union at Royal Sports Complex on July 29.
Chief of Staff Sri Lanka Army, President of Sri Lanka Athletic Association Maj Gen Daya Ratnayake was the chief guest. Over 150 players from 12 clubs participated in the grand finale organised by Women's Rugby Committee.
The main objective of this tournament is to give more exposure to players and also pick the national squad for the forthcoming Asian Women’s Sevens Tournament to be held in October, 2012.
In the finals of the championship cup Army ‘A’ beat Air Force by 43 points (Four goals, three tries).
The try scorers for Army were Ayesha Perera (3), Nilmini Kumari (one), Malkanthi Ratnayake (one) and Niranjale Wickramaratne.
