Army Woman Rugby Team Wins Championship

The finals of the women’s seven-a-side Inter Club Rugby Championship tournament held at Havelock Grounds on Sunday (19) gave a stunning win to the Army Woman Rugby players.

Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinhala watched the finals as the Chief Guest.

Sri Lanka Army Women’s Rugby team secured the championship and Sri Lanka Navy Women’s Rugby team ended as runners up. The final score stood 22-10.

Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinhala after extending his warm congratulations to the winners presented the Championship Trophy to the Army Women’s Rugby team amidst a thundering applause. Head Coach Captain N.R Meepage, Assistant Coaches Warrant Officer II M.M.S.C Madurusinghe, Staff Sergeant U.M.A.N Priyankara and a large gathering of senior officers of Navy and Army watched the Championship tussle.

Lance Corporal Ayesha Perera of the Army Women’s Rugby team was adjudged the player of the Tournament.
