Army Woman Cricketers Qualify for Semi Finals

Army women’s cricket ‘B’ team in women’s cricket club tournament beat Sri Lanka Navy ‘B’ team (SLN) by 61 runs during the final match of the first round played at the Army Cricket Ground, Panagoda on Saturday(25).

Batting first, the Army team scored 124 runs for 8 wickets in 50 overs while SLN team scored 63 runs in reply and all out in 38.2 overs.

Private H. S. M. M. G. D. P Hidagoda scored 38 runs and Private D. M. A. P Chandrasiri scored 20 runs, playing in a challenging milieu.

Army woman cricket ‘B’ team however qualified for the semi-final match.

In the meantime, Army women’s cricket ‘A’ team defeated Sri Lanka Air Force ‘B’ team (SLAF) by 9 wickets during the final match of the first round played at Air Force Ground, Colombo, the same day and finally the Army ‘A’ team became qualified for the semi-final match.

Air Force team batted first and secured 129 runs in 48.1 overs. The Army team managed to score the same marks losing only one wicket.

Private R.S.S. Wendert scored 64 runs and Privet H.I.S. Mendis scored 47 runs (not out).
