Army Troops Working in Polonnaruwa Stage a ‘New Year Walk’ with Sister Services

More than 250 tri-servicemen, including a majority of Army personnel, together with all workers, committed to the ongoing ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ project of the ‘Rajarata Navodaya’ of the President’s Secretariat, greeted the first working week in the New Year by staging the ‘2018 – PMO Walk’ across major roads in Polonnaruwa city suburbs on Thursday (4).

The 5 km-long walk, headed by Mr Ranjith Ariyaratne, District Secretary for Polonnaruwa, Brigadier Chandana Wijesundara, Director, ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ project, state officials, Army, Navy and Air Force personnel and band members of the Corps of Engineer Services, wended its way from the office of the ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ to reach Seevali Model School at Canal-4 and returned along the same road to the Dhawalagiri building where the ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ office is housed.

The project, themed ‘One Group – United in Professional Contribution for One Objective’ was aimed at promoting goodwill and collective understanding between state officials and the ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ office staff in order to reach a common goal. The event attracted the public attention in the area.

Meanwhile, a special musical show staged during the final week in December entertained all those working in the ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ project, following an initiative, taken by Brigadier Chandana Wijesundara, Director, ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ project.

District Secretary for Polonnaruwa, Mr Ranjith Ariyaratne, state officials, Project Director, tri-service personnel and other invitees enjoyed the evening, dubbed as the ‘Sing along with Pibidena Polonnaruwa’.
