Army Troops Take up the Challenge of School Roof Removal

23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the 642 Brigade under the 64 Division of the Security Force Headquarters – Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) took the challenge of removing the entire roof layer of the Kathaliyar Sammanamkulam G.T.M school, Oddusudan, Mullaittivu on Thursday (3) for renovation and repairs after the school authorities desperately approached the General Officer Commanding, 64 Division for assistance in that direction.

At the request of the Principal, troops at first visited the school premises and took stock of prevailing condition of the roof with leakages and holes after the troops were informed of the miserable condition during rainy season.

The principal has informed the GOC, 64 Division that no carpenters or any other technicians were prepared to take up the responsibility of repairing the roof due to its dilapidated nature.

However, 642 Brigade troops showing their technical expertise removed the entire damaged roof along with its broken tiles and rafters.

Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, GOC, 64 Division supervised the entire project which was challenging.

The principal and tutorial staff thanked the Army for their expertise and generosity and the timely assistance given to them before monsoon rains set in.
