One more social welfare programme, organized by the troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the financial sponsorship of Hemas Lanka PLC, gifted the village with a new Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC), during a simple ceremony at Selalihinigama, Vavuniya on Monday (30).
This new ECDC with a pre-school is also a community project, dedicated to the service of children in underprivileged villagers. The project has been launched to coincide with the Company’s Corporate Social Welfare concept of facilitating Early Childhood Development in underprivileged villages in various remote areas.
The Hemas Lanka PLC has so far established 44 Preschools around the Island, together with ‘Piyawara Outreach Foundation’ which is affiliated with the Ministry of Women and Child affairs.
The ceremony was organized by 563 Brigade giving prominence to the traditional rituals. 19 (V) Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops undertook the construction under the keen supervision of General Officer Commanding 56 Division Brigadier Thissa Nanayakkara.
Ven Thanamalvila Piyananda thero from the nearby Salalihinigama village temple was also associated with the ceremony.
Brigade Commander, 563 Brigade, Colonel Upali Gunasekera, Commanding Officer 19 (V) Gajaba Regiment, Major Chandhrarathna Wijewardhana and his Second in Command Major Samantha Fernando were behind the construction team.
Commander Security Force – Wanni (SF-W), Major General Kumudu Perera along with Director, Hemas Holding PLC & Trustee Hemas Outreach Foundation Mr. Saktha Amaratunge, General Manager Group Sustainability & Corporate Communication & Executive Director Hemas Outreach Foundation Mrs. Shiromi Masakorala and Trustee, Hemas Holding PLC Mrs. Azira Esufally graced the occasion as special invitees.
Senior Officers, Local Government officials, Officials from the Zonal Education Office, Vauniya, Principals of neighbouring village schools, Trusties & Executives of Hemas Lanka PLC and a large number of villagers from Salalihinigama and bordering villages were present during the opening ceremony.
