Army Troops Continue Cleaning Projects in Affected Kandy Areas

More than 150 Army personnel of the 11 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-Cen) launched two separate programmes to collect and pile up of debris and other paraphernalia of damaged properties, burnt remnants, etc in affected areas in the Kandy district on the directions of Major General Rukmal Dias, Commander, SF-Cen during 28 - 30 March.

After all assessments, Major General Nissanka Ranawana, General Officer Commanding, 11 Division has earmarked damaged properties along the road patch between Katugasthota town and Kurunegala, giving priority attention.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake instructed the Commander, Security Forces - Central (SF-Cen) to immediately undertake repairs to affected areas after he visited the affected areas in Kandy.

SFHQ-Cen troops in close coordination with several civilians in the area and officials at the Harispaththuwa Divisional Secretariat conducted those cleaning projects before repairs proper were started.

Meanwhile, troops also earmarked prioritized areas along Digana - Kengalla road patch and cleaned up either sides of the road with the support of Kundasale Divisional Secretariat and civilians in the area a few days ago.

Members of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-Cen) of the Army who have now been entrusted the arduous challenge of rebuilding and renovating all damaged properties in the recent communal riot-affected areas of Digana, Akurana, Galaha, Katugastota, Menikhinna, Ambetenna, Poojapitiya and a few other places in the Kandy district formally commenced clean-up projects a few weeks back.

The SFHQ-Cen troops, currently engaged in clean-up work have also sped up their roles using machinery of the Army, thereby saving a lot of money for the government and municipal councils.
