Army Troops Bring Life to Dilapidated Hindu Temples

WHILE performing duties to ensure security in respective areas, Jaffna-based Army troops continue to assist civil society in numerous ways to uplift their living standards.

Troops in 52 Division during the past few days organized several welfare measures in different locations within their areas of command.

On 11th August, 3 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops organized a “Shramadana” campaign to clean the temple yard of Iyanagar Hindu Kovil in Punidanagar since this holy place remained untidy for some time. Again they arranged lunch packets for small children attending Katkolam pre-School on 14th August. Children were also given gifts after lunch.

Troops of 9 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (Volunteer) meanwhile cleaned the road from Kachchai junction to the lagoon on 7th August and again the patch from Sri Karawayampathi Veera Pathireshwari Kovil on 11th August.

Meanwhile, 3 (Volunteer) Gemunu Watch troops organized an environment-friendly project on 9th August to remove garbage, polythene and other waste matter that lay on the coastal areas between Sakkottai and Viyaparamulla. The project was generously assisted by fisher folk in the coastal area.
