Army Troops Bag 14th National Tug of War Championship Trophy

Tug of War team of the Army won the 14th National Tug of War Championship, held at Kilinochchi Central College ground on Sunday (25). The tournament was organized by the National Tug of War Federation, together with the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN).

Teams of Sri Lanka Army (Male/Female), Sri Lanka Navy (Male/Female), Sri Lanka Air Force (Male/Female), Sri Lanka Police (Male/Female), Civil Security Department - Kilinochchi (Female), Vavuniya Sports Club (Male/Female), Dumbbell Sports Club - Pugoda (Male), Freedom Sports Club - Horana (Male) and Batticaloa Sports Club (Male) competed for supremacy.

In the male category, under 640 kg weight class, Sri Lanka Army won the Championship while the Sri Lanka Navy secured the Runner-Up slot. The Second Runner-Up was the Sri Lanka Police.

In the female category, under 540 kg weight class, Sri Lanka Navy secured the Championship while Sri Lanka Army secured the Runner-up slot. The Second Runner-up slot went to the Sri Lanka Air Force.

Major General Vijitha Ravipriya, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division graced the event as the Chief Guest. Brigadier Jayantha Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division and Brigadier Jagath Ratnayake, Brigadier General Staff at the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi also attended the event.

Representing the Tug of War Federation, Colonel Janaka Ranasighe, Chairman, Tug of War Federation participated in the ceremony.

Mr W. Christy Fernando, Secretary, Tug of War Federation, Mr Hemantha Bandara, Project Officer, Ministry of Sports, Mr Serasinghe, Deputy Chairman, Tug of War Federation and Mr Wickramasinghe, Additional Secretary, Tug of War Federation were also associated with the even as Guests of Honour.

The sponsorship to the 14th National Tug of War Championship was given by Nestomalt and Lakbima Newsaper and Sirasa TV channel were media sponsors.
