Army Troops Assist ‘Katina Pinkama’

The annual Katina Pinkama of the Sri Sugatha Viharaya in Mankulam was conducted recently with the assistance of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) at the temple premises.

Ven. Higurankande Sumana Thero, Chief Incumbent, Sri Sugatha Viharaya performed religious rites and rituals during the ceremony.

Major General Amal Karunasekara, Commander, Security Forces – Kilinochchi (SF-KLN), together with Brigadier Anura Sudasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, Colonel Chandana Somaweera, Brigade Commander, 574 Brigade and several senior officers attended the event.

574 Brigade troops conducted the Bodhi Pooja Pinkama at the temple premises, marking the commencement of the religious activities on Friday (28) before the major event. The Katina Cheevaraya offered to the resident monk was then taken to the temple in a colourful procession and was on display for the devotees to worship till next day morning.

The Chief Incumbent of the Nagadeepa Purana Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Mailagaswewa Ariyakiththi Thero along with other resident guest monks were present in the ceremony.

Further, Ven. Mailagaswewa Ariyakiththi Thero briefly described the significance of the ‘Katina’ offering and explained the importance and the value of participating in such events.

Subsequently, the ‘Katina Cheevara’ was offered to the Maha Sangha who gathered at the Danasala by devotees led by the Commander, SF-KLN. It followed a Sanghika Dana offered to Maha Sangha attending this great meritorious act.

Senior Military Officers, Police Officers and Other Ranks attended the ‘Katina’ Pinkama.
