The Inter Regiment Tennis Championship Tournament - 2015, organized by the Army Tennis Committee, was held at the Army Tennis Complex in Narahenpita on Friday (7), amid a large gathering of Tennis fans.
The tournament saw Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) and Gajaba Regiment (GR) tennis players in the Team Event category shone as Champions, winning 1st, 2nd & 3rd places respectively.
Corporal M.D.L Fernando of VIR was adjudged the Champion in the Open Single category of the tournament while the tournament’s over 35-45 Single Championship was claimed by Lieutenant Colonel H.V.A Somaweera of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI).
Brigadier K.P.A Jayasekara of Gemunu Watch won the Championship in the over 50 Single Championship category of the tournament.
The certificate and medal awarding ceremony, headed by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe as the Chief Guest, took place in the same evening with all arrangements, kept in order by Brigadier P.J Gamage, Chairman, Army Tennis Committee.
Major General Hathurusinghe gave away medals and certificates to the winners and congratulated them on their achievements. He was received on arrival by Brigadier P.J Gamage.
Senior Officers, Major H.D.R Senadheera, Secretary to Army Tennis Committee and a large gathering of other rankers were present during the occasion.
