Army Supports Conservation of Wetlands

The Army Directorate of Livestock and Agriculture on the directions of the Commander of the Army recently launched a tree-planting drive in close coordination with the Foundation for Conservation of Sri Lanka’s Flora and Fauna, to be in line with the ongoing Presidential Task Force campaign to the same effect.

Under the programme, Army troops, members of the Foundation for Conservation of Sri Lanka’s Flora and Fauna, school children and other state officials planted a few hundreds of saplings of Jak, Cinnamon, Ehela, Bulu, Mara, Guava, Mango, Mee, etc around wetlands of the reservoirs Victoria, Randenigala, Rantambe, Kotmale and Ihala Kotmale after the programme near the power-plant at Nillamba, Gampola got underway on Friday (26).

Officials of the Electricity Board, Mahaweli Authority, school children and nature-lovers joined the programme.
