ARMY WITH SISTER SERVICES THROW FULL WEIGHT BEHIND ‘SAVUBAGYE DEKMA’ EMPLOYMENT PROJECT

Consistent with the policy statement, ‘Savubagye Dekma’ (Vision for Prosperity) of HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, island-wide based Army officers as per directions of the acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, are currently cooperating with District / Divisional Secretariat officials for screening and conduct of interviews for selection of 100,000 job applicants from low-income group families across the country.

The project that kicked off on Wednesday (26) covering island-wide 304 District / Divisional Secretariats will culminate on Saturday (29) as instructed by Ministry of State Administration, Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and the Multi-Purpose Development Task Force of the Presidential Secretariat, responsible for implementation.

Those interview boards, mostly presided by a senior administrative officer in the respective Secretariat comprise Army, Navy, Air Force and Civil Security Department Officers as stipulated in specific instructions, issued by Major General H.P Seneviratne, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) to all SFHQs on the guidelines given by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, acting Chief of Defence Staff.

As of Thursday (27) evening, 1085 interview boards, manned by Army Officers, attached to Jaffna, Wanni, East, Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, West and Central Security Force Headquarters, presided by respective state officials have completed interviewing 114,421 applicants during both days (26-27 Feb) after applicants reported to specific places.

Those applicants between 18 - 45 years of age with less than 9 years of education (Grade 8) who faced those interviews were selected under different categories as one without any state employee in the family, non-recipients of Samurdhi benefits, widows with teenage children, member of a family with disabled persons, member with dependents or terminally ill parents or adults, member with family income of less than Rs 5000/= per month, those involved in social services or sports activities, etc.

Multi-Purpose Development Task Force of the Presidential Secretariat further underscores the selection of the most deserving and poverty-stricken persons for those job offers from Grama Seva Niladari Divisions since the project, envisioned by the HE the President, is purely designed to provide relief to the lowest strata of our society, living in abject poverty.

During both days (26-27 Feb), a total of 552,228 applications have been received by those interview boards across the island. (Ends) affiliate link trace | Marki
