Army Riders & Drivers Show Colours in ‘Gunner Supercross’

The annual ‘Gunner Supercross - 2017’, organized by the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) for the 12th consecutive year, in combination with Sri Lanka Automobile Sports Drivers Association (SLADA) at SLA tracks in Minneriya mesmerized thousands of motor racing enthusiasts last Tuesday (8).

12 car events, 12 motorbike events and two events for jeeps in the ‘Gunner Supercross - 2017’ decorated the thrilling spectacle which drew a packed audience. The SLA collects funds for their welfare work through this spectacular event every year.

Sri Lanka’s famous driver, Ashan Silva took away the trophy as the Best Driver while the reputed Gayan Sandaruwan was adjudged the Best Rider to claim the trophy.

Sri Lanka Army Drivers and Riders in group truck and jeep events and motorcycle (250 cc & 105 cc) events showed their colours, posing a challenge to other competitors. Among the Army competitors were several Senior Officers.

Major General Amal Karunasekara, Chief of Staff of the Army as the Chief Guest for the final segment of the event gave away trophies and other awards.

Lieutenant Colonel J.K.D.G Jayasinghe of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) - (2nd Place)

Lieutenant Colonel W.R.W.M.S.R.M.B Weerakon of Gajaba Regiment (GR) - (2nd Place)

STD/MOD Motor Cycle 250cc - National Event:

Private Kumarasinghe of Sri Lnaka Service Corps - (3rd Place)

Racing Motor Cycle 125cc - Defence Forces Event:

Corporal P.R Wijerathne of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment - (2nd Place)

MX Racing Motor Cycle 250cc - National Event - Race 2:

Signalman D.B.K Silva of Sri Lanka Signal Corps - (5th Place)
