Army, Ratnam shoot to the top

DEFENDING champions Army Sports Club and Ratnam SC took an early lead in the going Dialog Champion league football tournament.

Ratnam leads the group “A” table scoring seven points after winning two games out of three while one game was drawn.

In the same group Renown hold the second place with the same number of points but with a less number of goals while Air Force are in third place with six points. Ratnam and Renown are the only two teams unbeaten in the league.

On the other hand last year’s champions Army is leading the group “B” table with six points from two wins and one loss out of three games.

The vastly improved Don Bosco who caused an upset win over Army in the opening game are in second place with six points while New Youngs, Wennappuwa occupy third place with six points.

Meanwhile six more games were played on Wednesday and in a group “A’ match Ratnam beat Jupiters six goals to one in a one-sided contest at Kelaniya. The first half ended 1-1 but the second half turned into a one sided affair as Ratnam dominated the game totally.

In the same group matches Air Force beat Old Bens 1-0 and Renown beat Saunders 3-2.

In group “B’ matches, Don Bosco registered an easy win against Police 3-0 at Police Park and Blue Star beat Negombo Youth 3-0 at Longden place while Army beat New Youngs 3-1 at City Football league. (Courtesy: Daily Mirror)
