Army Putting Barren Land into Good Use Put Up Two More Holiday Resorts for All Ranks

Giving a new lease of life as well as proving once again the Army’s unmatched prowess of turning anything to good use, the Army troops serving the Jaffna peninsula put up two new holiday resorts, using abandoned barren state land plots, given to the Army.

The two new Army holiday resorts in Mailady, Kankasanthurai, opened ceremonially by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on Sunday (13) give added weight to the Army’s ongoing campaign to further strengthen island-wide welfare facilities, being made available to all ranks for their rest and relaxation.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya soon after the culmination of the humanitarian operations directed Army Welfare Directorate to launch a project to upgrade existing ones or construct new Army holiday resorts for all ranks since battlefield commitment hardly provided them with desired holiday spirit or opportunities, particularly in the company of their family members.

Opening of these two new holiday resorts, one completely sponsored by the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) and the other by the Army Troops further enhances holiday stays in the northern peninsula as both of them offer high standard facilities to the users.

As the chief patron of these welfare projects, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya cut a ribbon as a formality and warmed both of these holiday resorts after lighting the traditional oil lamp upon entering the new premises at the invitation of the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.

Commander during his inspection of both these new bungalows was impressed with the transformation of these two barren land plots into incredible construction sites rich with landscape of picturesque nature.

Before his departure, the Commander thanked all the Engineers and others who contributed to the construction of these two new holiday resorts.

A large gathering of senior officers, including Director, Directorate of Welfare at Army Headquarters attended the ceremonies.
