Army-Produced World Class Athletes &;amp; Their Coach Fèted

Achievements of the world-class Javelin Throw athlete, Warrant Officer-1 B.L. Nadeeka Lakmali of 4 Battalion (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) who secured the world’s 12th rank, having entered the final round at the recent IAAF World Athletics Championship and Sergeant Maduranga who shone in Javelin Throw at the recent Asian Championship, together with their coach, Mr A.J Rodrigo, were fèted by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army when the trio were invited to the office of the Commander, Thursday (10), the Army Day (October 10).

Lieutenant General Ratnayake extolling the reputation they brought to the country through their athletic achievements at international meets assured them of continued financial assistance and training expertise for promotion of their athletic skills further.

On the same occasion, the Commander appreciative of the services being extended to the Army by their coach, Mr A.J Rodrigo, presented him with a cash gift of Rs 50,000/=.

Last week, the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on the directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, gifted her with a scholarship that would cover her training costs, following patronage received from Mr Buddhika Kadurugamuwa, Chairman, Blackstone Engineering (Pvt) Ltd at the request of SLAVF Commandant, Major General S.A.P.P. Samarasinghe.
