Army Prepared School Ground Gifted to Commander's Alma Mater

   
Showing his deep sense of gratitude to the primary school where he was moulded during preliminary stages of education, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake on Monday (6), gifted Siyambalangamuwa Kanishta Vidyalaya (Junior school) with a new playground, prepared by Army troops, close to the school premises.
 
It was a day of rejoice that rekindled the hopes for hundreds of kids and students, learning in the primary school as it was a dream come true for them who had to trek miles for sports meets or training, etc earlier due to absence of a playground of their own.

A ceremony, held at the school this morning (6), saw this new playground, built by Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE), Engineers Service Regiment (ESR) and 1 Sri Lanka National Guard (1 SLNG) troops, was vested in the students by her old boy, the Commander, amidst applause and the honours, presented by the school Cadets of the 4 National Cadet Corps (NCC).

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake at the invitation of the principal symbolically lit the Olympic lamp in the ground after he was warmly received and flagged off the organized mixed relay events of the girls and boys of the school as the inaugural feature.

The Commander bringing back lots of undying school-day memories afterwards, took time off to inspect class rooms, library, vegetable farms and the principal’s office complex in the school compound and shared a couple of thoughts with teachers and students who were eagerly awaiting a sight of the visiting Commander, a past pupil of their own school. The playground construction was supervised by Lieutenant Colonel H.V.A Somaweera, Commanding Officer, HQ Battalion.  

The brief ceremony, attended by Ms Wathsala Pilapitiya, Maspotha Divisional Secretary, Mr. U.L Sirimewan Podi Nilame, Zonal Education Director, Ms S.G Amarasinghe, Principal, Lieutenant Colonel H.V.A Somaweera, Commanding Officer, HQ Battalion, Major D.M.C.K Dissanayake, Commanding Officer, 1 SLNG, Lieutenant Colonel K.P.U Samarasinghe, Commanding officer, 4 NCC, teachers, parents, invitees and students.
