Army Chess players marked a historic win both as Runner-Up and 2nd Runners-up slots in the 8th ‘Dhamso’ International Chess Festival 2018 - held during April 19 – 23 at S Thomas De Silva Memorial Auditorium in Ambalangoda.
This tournament was organized by Old Boys of the Chess Association of Dharmashoka College in collaboration with the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka under the aegis of the World Chess Federation.
379 Chess players of international and national levels competed for the title ‘DICF Player’ of the year. Among them there were two IMs (International Masters) from India and Spain.
Meanwhile, Captain W.A.T.D Sumanadasa of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) won the equal third place in the ‘unrated category’.
In addition, Corporal S.S.M.D.M Suraweera of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) clinched 2nd place in the ‘Disabled Category’ as a vision impaired competitor who competed in the tournament.
Due to the fully fledged support of the Commander of the Army this achievement was made possible.
