'Army Para Games-2014' Draws to a Close with New Hopes


The annual ‘Army Para Games-2014’ that got underway at Sugathadasa Stadium for 3 days came to a close on Friday (22), giving overall victory to Gajaba Regiment (GR) sportsmen despite inclement weather  constraints.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest for award of trophies and merits, watched the final events with keen interest in the company of Major General Jagath Dias, Chairman, Army Para Games  Committee.

Among the distinguished visitors who witnessed the final closing ceremony were Mr Ravinath Aryasinha, Ambassador / Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva and Dr Chris Nonis, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner for the United Kingdom.  

GR war heroes of our times secured the overall victory in all track and field events and carried away the Championship. Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) sportsmen became the runners-up in the 3 day tournament.

Several foreign sportsmen too took part in the competitions in the Para Games  - 2014.

Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Director Sports and a large gathering attended the closing ceremony.
