Army Organized Netball Tournament for IDPs Becomes A Crowd-puller

SRI LANKA ARMY constantly concerned about the mental and physical development of civilians temporarily staying in welfare centres for IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) always tries to make their lives more interesting and comfortable through various sports, hobbies and other programmes.

To support the project, 522 Brigade under Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) recently organized a volleyball and netball tournament for the IDPs in Mirusuvil welfare centre.

The tournament was held between 24 – 28 last month with the participation of almost all sport-loving men and women. The finals were played on a grand scale with full patronage of the Army on 28th June.   

Commander 522 Brigade Lieutenant Colonel D.M.H.D. Bandara as the Chief Guest inaugurated the tournament lighting the traditional coconut oil lamp.

A friendly and exhibitory volleyball match was later on played between the Army and the IDP teams towards the end of the games. Special prizes were distributed among the winners by the Chief Guest on the final day.
