Army-Organized 38th National Squash Championship – 2018 Draws to a Close

The Sri Lanka Army-organized 38th National Squash Championship - 2018 tournament that kicked off at Panagoda Indoor Stadium and conducted for four days (27-30) drew to a close during a grand awarding ceremony, attended by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army who graced as the Chief Guest at the request of the National Squash Committee.

Lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Chief Guest and several invitees followed the commencement of the finals in the Men’s Women’s matches as hundreds of onlookers took to cheering.

The player, Ms Mihiliya Methsarani who depicted her prowess from the beginning finally won the Women’s championship in this 38th National Squash Championship – 2018 by beating Ms Fathqum Issadeen in the finals.

Mr Ravindu Laksiri beating Mr Shameel Wakeel won the Men’s title in the 38th National Squash Championship – 2018 to receive trophies and medals. Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake congratulated the winners in both categories and assured them of continued support for promotion of their skills in Squash since the Army has taken a special interest to promote this sport across the country in future.

The day’s Chief Guest afterwards awarded trophies and medals to the National Champions and players and wished them good luck. Several Senior Officers also joined the distribution of awards. Air Commodore (Rtd) Ajith Abesekara, Chairman, National Squash Committee welcomed the day’s Chief Guest on arrival at the venue.

Major General Sanjaya Munasinghe, Director General, Army Health Services, Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Squash Committee, Air Commodore (Rtd) Ajith Abesekara, Chairman, National Squash Committee and Lieutenant Commander (Rtd) Priyadarshana Jayarathne, Secretary National Squash Committee also attended at the event.
