Army Netballers Clinch Inter-Club Championship After 19 Years

Sri Lanka Army Netballers emerged champions in the Inter-Club Open Netball Championship after 19 years beating Sri Lanka Air Force 11 : 8 and Sri Lanka Navy 12 : 7. The tournament was held at Ewariwatta Grounds, Katunayake recently (3 - 4 March).

Captain WBN Weerakkody of the Army team was adjudged the best player of the tournament.

The Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, he himself being a veteran sportsman, takes a keen interest in developing sports in the Army and the efforts taken by the Sports Committee Chairman, the Director Sports and the Netball Chairperson on the advice of the Commander has made the dream of winning this championship a reality after a long laps since 1993.

The Army team led by Lance Corporal ANNC Fernando of 2 Sri Lanka Army Women’s' Corps (Volunteer) was coached by veteran Netball player and coach Warrant Officer II  PDN Prasadee.
