Army Male Swimmers Carry Away National Intermediate Age Group Trophy for the Second Consecutive Year

Sri Lanka Army swimmers dominated once again and secured the Overall Championship in Men’s category in the National Intermediate Age Group Swimming Championships – 2018. It took place at Sugathadasa Indoor Swimming Pool Complex during 21-23 June with the participation of national and international level competitors.

The Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) is the main organizer of this National event and it was conducted under five main categories.

Army male swimmers secured 14 Gold, 13 Silver and 15 Bronze medals after competing against more than 700 swimmers of 93 schools and sports clubs across the island during the three-day long tournament.

The Army contingent is comprised of 34 male and 3 female competitors.

Olympic Gold Medalist and current 50m Back Stroke record holder Mr Liam Tancock (UK) attended the event as the Chief Guest and awarded certificates and trophies to the winners.

Sri Lanka Army swimmers participating in the tournament, the Army Aquatics Sports Committee, chaired by Major General Piyal Wickremaratne, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment has been providing all the support, needed for training of those swimmers participating in national and international events.
