Army Listens to Retired Security Forces Personnel in Jaffna

FORMER SERVICE PERSONNEL and Police officers residing in Jaffna after their retirement were awarded a rare opportunity for interaction with serving military officers and submission of grievances, if any, following an initiative taken by 52 Division Commander on the instructions of Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander Security Forces, Jaffna (SF-J).

Most of those retired officers after their retirement in 1980s were living in isolation, some of them either widowed or without any next of kin with them, but were reluctant to leave their native places in the peninsula. Never have they been allowed or given any such interaction upon retirement, though many of them have served round the island while they were in service.

Brigadier S.A.A.L Perera, General Officer Commanding 52 Division invited all of them living in Thennamarachchi and Vadamarchchi areas to the 52 Divisional Headquarters as the first phase on 13th March and listened to their issues patiently. Some of the issues were resolved then and their and those pensioners were assured support from Jaffna civil authorities for other practical aspects.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Commander also inspected the work at housing complex, being erected for needy civilians in Katkolam and Potpathy areas. Those new recipients meeting the visiting Army officer expressed their gratitude for the project.
