Army Joins ‘Vanaropa’ National Tree Planting Programme Second Phase

The Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock on the instructions of the Commander of the Army launched the second phase of the ‘Vanaropa’ tree planting programme in Maussakele Hydro Power plant catchment areas during 17-18 May.

The first phase of the programme commenced in 2017. 300 different native saplings were planted and unnecessary invasive plants were also removed in water retention areas around Maussakele power plant during the second phase.

Brigadier Buwaneka Gunarathna, Director, Agriculture and Livestock, representing the Army, officials of Maussakele Hydro Power plant and school students in the area participated in the event and planted those 300 saplings.
