Army Inventors Win Accolades in ‘Sahasak Nimewum - 2017’ National Exhibition & Ruhunu University Exhibition

The recent ‘Sahasak Nimewum - 2017’ national competition and the mega exhibition of new inventions and innovations, dedicated for national inventors in connection with the World Inventors’ Day awarded laurels to 08 new Army inventions with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and cash awards during the official National Inventors’ Ceremony at the BMICH a few days ago.

In addition, the Commission for Sri Lanka’s New Inventors commended 259 innovative products that had been invented by Army personnel at different provincial Security Force Headquarters levels across the country since new such inventions would inevitably induce the promotion of various innovations among Army personnel in future too. 26 of them were selected to be produced to the national mega exhibition, ‘Sahasak Nimewum - 2017’ that got underway at the BMICH.

Warrant Officer II P.D.R.N Nalin Kumara of 9 Sri Lanka National Guard, Corporal W.G Priyantha Kumara of 9 Corps of Field Engineers and Rifleman G.S Sri Ranga of 642 Brigade won Gold medals (Rs 1 lakh each) for their hopper preparation unit, measuring equipment and energy transformer respectively during the event at the BMICH.

Major W.A.S Prasad of 23 Sri Lanka National Guard and Captain T.H.J.C Somathilaka of 6 Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers secured Silver medals (each Rs 50,000/=) for their automatic security equipment and water pump run by wind power respectively.

Captain D.M.P.M Dasanayake of Research Analysis, Suggestions and Development Branch, Lance Corporal B.G.U Bandara of 7 Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps and Lance Corporal J.C Nishanthi of 6 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps respectively won Bronze medals (each Rs. 30,000/=) for dismantling of motorbike, bullet storing package and the unit for production of environment-friendly utensils in sequence.

Meanwhile, five such new inventions of the Army, produced by the same winners in the BMICH event recently to the ‘Ruhunu Invention and Innovation Exhibition - 2017’ of the University of Ruhuna won 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd places in the open category.

Accordingly, Corporal S. Herath of 26 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (1st place), Captain D.M.P.M Dasanayake of Research Analysis, Suggestions and Development Branch (2nd place), Lance Corporal M. Rajakaruna of 5 Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (3rd place), Major Prasad of 23 Sri Lanka National Guard (3rd place) and Corporal S. Wijesinghe of 5 Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (3rd place) were gifted with cash by organizers in the ‘Ruhunu Invention and Innovation Exhibition - 2017’.
