Army Inter Regiment Taekwondo Meet Held in Jaffna

THE EIGHTH Army Inter Regimental Taekwondo Meet of the Army was successfully concluded on 7th June at the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J) with the participation of over 250 sports men and women. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, SFHQ-J.

The overall Championship for men was won by the Gajaba Regiment and its amateur Championship was won by the Commando Regiment and Intelligence Corps jointly. The runner-up in the overall Championship was the Army Service Corps. Women’s Taekwondo championship went to the 2nd Battalion of Women Corps and the runner up was 5th Battalion of Women Corps. The Best Taekwondo player was Lance Corporal A.W.I Perera of Sinha Regiment and the Best woman player was Private B.G.S Gayani of 2nd Battalion Women Corps.

Grading and awarding of belts and certificates to 12 youth from Jaffna who belong to the1st batch trained in Taekwondo by the Army was also carried out by the Chief Guest. A memento was also given to the Jaffna Commander in appreciation of the service done by the Army to promote Taekwondo in Jaffna.

Rev. Father Justin Gnanapragasam, Mr K Ganesh, District Secretary for Jaffna, Mr R.T Vishvaraj, retired High Court Judge, National Taekwondo coach Kishu Ki and Brigadier B.C.J.F Rodrigo, the President, Army Taekwon do Committee were among the invitees. Army dancing troops and children from Hindu College, Jaffna entertained those present.
