Army Inter Regiment 2 Mile Sea Swimming Championship – 2018 Ends

The second Inter Regiment Two-Mile Open Sea Swimming Championship - 2018 organized by the Army Aquatic Sports Committee got underway at Mount Lavinia seas on Wednesday (7).

Representing 13 Regiments of the Army, 157 male and 9 female Army swimmers competed in the tournament.

Highest Aggregate Point Challenge Trophy for Men & Women was respectively secured by the Gajaba Regiment (GR) and 1 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) teams.

Best Men’s and Women’s (Individual) shields were secured respectively by Lance Corporal W.M Wimal Kumara of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) and Lance Corporal R.K Jayathilaka of the 4 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC).

Awards for the Men’s Team Championship of the Inter Regiment Swimming Championship - 2018 went to Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) while Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) and Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) teams secured the second and third places respectively. Women’s team championship was secured by the 1 SLAWC swimmers while 4 SLAWC named as the Runners-up.

The Chief Guest to the closing ceremony, Major General Piyal Wickramaratne, Chairman, Army Aquatics Sports Committee who is also the Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) and the Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) distributed certificates and awards to the achievers.

Major General Anura Sudasinghe, Director General Sports at the Army Headquarters, Major General Lionel Kasthuriarachchi, Deputy Commandant, SLAVF, Colonel Clifford De Zoysa, Vice Chairman, Army Aquatic Sports Committee, a few senior Officers, swimmers and a large gathering of invitees and spectators were also present at the awarding ceremony.
