Army Initiates Golf Training Workshops for Kilinochchi Students

57 Division Headquarters on the directions of Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN) recently conducted a Golf introductory workshop for students learning at Kilinochchi Central College with the support of the Sri Lanka Golf Union.

This workshop was personally supervised by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 57 Division, Major General Jagath Gunawardene.

This workshop was supported by Golf Development and Golf Sports Consultant, Mr Anil Perera of Sri Lanka Golf Union which is the governing body for development of golf playing in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Golf Union with the main aim of popularizing Golf all over the island is seeking possibilities of grooming junior golfers to reach national levels.

Sri Lanka Golf Union conducted this Open Golf Day as an introductory workshop at Eagles’ Heritage Golf Course, Anuradhapura Air Force Base.

Before the introductory workshop, a selection camp was conducted for 50 students from Kilinochchi Central College after taking them to Anuradhapura.

At present, the young generation of Kilinochchi area, who was badly affected by 30 year-prolonged terrorist war, is interested in discovering their talents and skills.

Training sessions, scheduled at weekends at Kilinochchi Central College grounds will cover Northern Province in the future.

Three qualified instructors, Mr H.L.P Hemantha, Mr K Soundaraj and Mr Ishan Gamage from Sri Lanka Golf Union contributed to the training sessions.
